Design matters because communication matters.

First impressions count, right? If your business image does not truly reflect what you do, then there are many who will take it on face value and skip right on by to your opposition.

When you're first starting out, you may or may not have strong ideas about how you will present your business. You can make more cost-effective and successful conclusions if you take a systematic approach to the task.

Logo

The first thing to consider is your logo. Why? Because once you have a logo, it is then integrated into every other marketing device or piece of advertising you'll ever do. It ties everything together and sets the look and feel for each new piece of design. If you don't finalise your logo first, then you may find it difficult and expensive trying to integrate one into existing material at a later date.

Colours

You probably have a favourite colour, or favorite colour combination you intend to use in you marketing material, and that's fine. However, before making a final decision, you would be wise to do a little research on colour theory. Different colours mean different things to different people, but, there are common associations underlying colours that subliminally influence the majority of people, and this is very important to consider.


Be sure your image reflects the value of your business by creating a "look and feel" that represents what you do in the best possible light. Your image should be consistant - your signage, stationery & website, etc. should all reinforce the same visual message.
